Just a stone's throw from bustling Bourke Street in Camberwell is Butterfly, a corner cafe run by Jack Brown and Tim Walton. When Tim retired from his chef duties at Circa and Jack completed a business course, the duo decided to establish a place of their own. Their aim was simple - to create an ambience in their own style, and in which they would enjoy working every day. Open since March, it would appear they have succeeded with the bright, funky design and friendly, relaxed service attracting regular locals and shoppers alike. Breakfast is served all day, with pides and baguettes a hit around lunchtime.
Butterfly is a cozy cafe with charm and character. The coffee is good and much better than the watered down version from the collective. Sunday breakfast is amazing. The best in the area by far. Beautiful fluffy eggs and bacon are a real treat. It has tried to be copied by the collective but does not compare.
The chicken pides are to die for and well worth giving this place a second chance to find. However, coffee is always lacking and too many school children hang out there all the time.
This is a very average cafe, despite appearing to be quite funky, and ambient from the outside. The coffee is nothing special, about the same as most of the other surrounding cafes. Haven't tried the food, but the menu looked pretty normal.
Very poor food toasted sandwiches etc; dressed up pretending to be something of quality. Also, Insanely overpriced for what it is! The coffee is below average. It generally lacks taste and is somewhat watery. Ambience suffers due to cramped condition indoors. Outside street tables are ok in warm weather.
I must admit i wanted to visit this little place for a while, it is a trendy looking cafe, that is what the attraction is especially with the younger generation, or the older trendy generation. The food was below average just expected that little more rather than foccacias and of course pides. Anyway i guess we cant be to outragous in an otherwise conservative area just trendy enough for smart business.
